Neural DSP was founded in 2017 by Douglas Castro and Francisco Cresp, starting as a new company to develop audio plugins and a hardware modeler, separate from Castro's bass equipment company, Darkglass.Their first plug-in was the Darkglass Ultra in April 2018, followed by a major success with the Fortin Nameless plug-in in September of that year. The company gained significant recognition through its Archetype series, a line of plug-ins co-developed with high-profile guitarists like Tim Henson, Cory Wong, and Plini. This success led to the creation of their hardware device, the Quad Cortex, a powerful amp modeler that emphasizes user experience and advanced tone recreation, leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning for its development.
