Founded by Leo Fender in 1980, G&L USA instruments continue to be made in the historic G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California, the Birthplace of Bolt-on™.

The G&L S-500 can feature either an Ash or Mahogany body using a Stratocaster design template. It uses three single coil pickups designed by Leo Fender. From '92 to '97 it used a three-bolt neck before switching to the current four-bolt.
*Not to be confused with the Tribute S-500 (made overseas), which has a far lower market value.
