The Preacher Deluxe was Ovation’s take on the traditional American solidbody electric, combining classic construction with some remarkably forward-thinking electronics for its era. This example features the distinctive double-cutaway solid mahogany body, mahogany bolt-on neck, bound ebony fingerboard and elegant abalone block inlays. The gold-plated hardware adds to its unmistakable late-'70s character.

Where the Preacher Deluxe really sets itself apart is in the electronics. Equipped with two high-output humbucking pickups, the guitar features individual Series/Parallel switching for each pickup, allowing for a wide range of tonal variations from full, powerful humbucker tones to brighter, more open sounds. A three-way pickup selector and additional midrange notch/filter switching further expand the tonal palette. The onboard active electronics were remarkably sophisticated for the period and were designed to give players an unusually broad range of sounds from a single instrument.

With its 24¾" scale, 24-fret ebony fingerboard, solid mahogany construction and highly versatile switching system, the Preacher Deluxe is as interesting to play as it is to look at. These were built in relatively limited numbers and have become increasingly collectible among players and vintage-guitar enthusiasts who appreciate Ovation's more adventurous solidbody designs.
