Bourgeois Downeast Series SDS/DE Walnut — Limited Edition
Some guitars stop you mid-sentence. The Bourgeois SDS/DE Walnut Limited Edition is one of them. A slope-shoulder dreadnought built in Lewiston, Maine by Dana Bourgeois, this limited run pairs the warmth and complexity of American black walnut with Bourgeois’ legendary hand-voicing — the result is an instrument that is as visually striking as it is sonically compelling.
Walnut is having its moment, and for good reason. As a back and sides wood, it sits tonally between mahogany and rosewood — offering mahogany’s focused midrange punch alongside rosewood’s depth and sustain. It’s a tonewood that rewards players who want something distinct: not the expected brightness of spruce-and-rosewood, but something earthier, more complex, and entirely its own.
The slope-shoulder dreadnought body shape softens the aggression of a traditional dreadnought, producing a more balanced, even response across the frequency range. It’s a player’s body — comfortable to hold, easy to play, and capable of filling a room without effort.
